There are few Presidents of the United States whose historical image has changed more frequently than that of Andrew Johnson. In the immediate aftermath of the Civil War and Reconstruction, he was considered inept and stubborn. After some time, however, Reconstruction was no longer seen as a holy crusade, and Johnson's reputation began to improve. By the 1920's, Johnson had become a great hero who had courageously defended the Constitution against unprincipled radicals. But as circumstances changed again and racial problems were once more weighing upon America's conscience, the seventeenth President's achievements began to appear more questionable. Perhaps he had not been so admirable after all; perhaps his stubborn resistance to radical demands for black suffrage merited disapprobation rather than praise. His portrait was tarnished a second time. Not only was he now labeled a racist, but an inept politician as well.

In Impeachment of a President: Andrew Johnson, the Blacks, and Reconstruction, Trefousse paints a portrait of Johnson as a man who was honest, stubborn, and certain of the justice of his cause. Trefousse argues that Johnson was not the man to inch from the implications of decisions which might interfere temporarily with his long-range aims. Often alienating potential allies, he could have probably achieved more had he cooperated with moderate republicans. In part, he might even have realized his white supremacist aims. But once he had made his decision, once he had refused to come to terms with the moderates, his subsequent actions were not illogical. His policy may not the most intelligent-he was no political genius-but it was not wholly unsuccessful.

About the Author

Hans Trefousse (1921-2010) was Distinguished Professor of History at Brooklyn College and at the Graduate Center, of the City University of New York.

Good but you will need to be good with Linear Algebra/Matrices

At first glance, I wouldn't say this book is for beginners since it is not aimed to "give an idea" of "how it works" or generalities like that. After a short review of Matrices and Probabilities (join distributions), it goes directly to the math formulation of the filter.

Of course, a beginner can take this book IF (s)he is at ease with matrices/linear algebra, and knows already the generalities of how the Kalman filter works. Then this book will give a good math foundation, which it is the goal of the book in my opinion. You will see theorems, proofs, demonstrations, some examples yes, but not a lot of projects to implement nor codes. It has a chapter combining Kalman filters with Wavelet filters which ultimately made buy the book. Just in case: I started as beginner, I got the general idea of Kalman, examples and basic Matlab� codes from internet, and this book was good to satisfy my Math-hunger.

Great book by a great guy

This book is about how Craig Ferguson became who he is today. He talks about his childhood, parents, drug addiction, failed marriages, and then how he turned it all around.

If you like the man read it. It's kind of slow to start but it's a great read and I have a lot of respect for him writing about himself. It really gives you insight on why he's the way he is.

Boy book #2 in the Training House series was a disturbing 5 star read.

I feel almost unbearably protective of her. My girl. Mine. Something that belongs to me for the first time in my life. No. Somone.

What a hot and twisted read.

This is Christopher and Aimee’s story told in Christopher's POV. Boy starts right where Girl left off. Christopher and Aimee find themselves being transported away from their master. Only Christopher understands where they are headed, when he realizes Aimee is in the van with him his primal instincts kick in.

Christopher is trying to understand his attraction towards Aimee and his need to top her and take her for himself. The games that are played at the ranch are quite jaw dropping and I had to read a couple of different times to really catch everything.

Christopher plots his escape and plans to take Aimee with him. He can’t help but feel bad for betraying his Master but he can’t get past his need for Aimee. Will they be able to get away?
Boy ends in a huge cliffhanger that will leave you wanting answers immediately.

“Prettiness, have I told you how much I love that you wear my marks?”

I have to say this is the first series that I have read that has this type of BDSM. The biting and blood shed at times would make me cringe but I couldn’t look away. This was a quick read that I suggest you read at home due to the content.This is definitely a book that could hold some triggers for some readers. 18+ is recommended.

Dark, Twisted and Absolutely Amazing!!

Wow. Just Wow! Sometimes you find an author that blows you away with such an intense story/series with characters that are raw and intense in a story that hooks you from the first page. Those moments are special. This series is one of those moments.

This is the second book in Eden Bradley's Training house series and you MUST read GIRL first since BOY picks up immediately and moves this unbelievably good story forward. This edgy, dark tale pushes the limits to deliver a powerful, emotionally -charged story. Behind the kink, and oh my, there is plenty of kink, is a love story between girl, boy and Master. This series is unique and addictive, exploring the consensual relationship between Master and slaves. And again, Ms. Bradley leaves us with a cliff hanger that has me on the edge of my seat, wondering if they will find a happy ending.

I went through an emotional roller coaster while reading this book. This story just tugs at your heart and makes you feel things I wasn't sure I should or could feel. Even though this is a series each story grips you so tight I can't wait for the entire series I have to own these in print. I cannot wait to see what she has up for us in Master. I think everyone should read this gripping journey.

One thing I've learned about people who love books is that they come in all shapes and sizes and from all backgrounds and places, but the common ground of literature somehow makes everything work. When I was younger, I was the only bookworm I knew. Now that I'm an adult, I've found the joy of seeking others out and spending time with them. It's like a whole new world has opened up to me, and so of course I wanted to write about it! Not that I have a former stripper in my book club or anything...

Loved It!

I have read every book Ms. Lee and her alter-ego, Elle Casey, has published on Amazon and absolutely loved each one of them. This was my first Kat Lee book and I found it to be an absolute treasure.

Though the Amazon description says that "Three women strike up an unlikely friendship, drawn together over a love of books, and end up forming bonds that move well beyond what any of them ever imagined possible.", I think there's actually FOUR of them - and the fourth of them, Betty, is my favorite! She makes only a few brief appearances in the book but each of them just steals the show! In the book she's described as looking like she's at least 100 years old - maybe more - and looks like a dried raisin with knitting needles. She is forever knitting baby booties ... always using the most God-Awful and completely baby-inappropriate color yarns that you can ever imagine; camouflage green, shocking orange, and others that just boggle the mind. When the girls ask the 97 year old Betty her secret to longevity, she replies "sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll". Right then, I fell in love with her!

The book revolves around three completely diverse women who meet through pure synchronicity and then go on, each with the help of the others, to blossom into the beautiful, complete women that they had each always dreamed of being. The changes don't come easily - they have demons to overcome and bad guys to fight. Full Measure is a delightful story. It's one of those rare books with a magic rabbit hole - which I fell through and into the story. I felt as though I were there watching the characters instead of just reading words on a page.

Kat Lee - aka Elle Casey - is my new favorite author. I found her when she, as Elle Casey, offered a free Kindle download of the first volume in the Apocalypsis series. It was so good that I immediately purchased all of her other Kindle books - and loved every one of them. Not only does she have a vivid imagination that she uses to write fantastic fantasies, her books have VERY few grammatical errors, no plot holes, and she is one of the few newer authors who knows how to correctly use punctuation. I guess some people aren't bothered by it, but misspellings, poor grammar, incorrect homophones, and unnecessary apostrophes drive me CRAZY and make it impossible for me to enjoy the works of other authors! You won't find any of that in her books and, for me, that makes them a delight!

Read just one of her books and I guarantee you'll be back for more!

Absolutely Outstanding!

I loved this book so much. I've been saving Full Measure for a while now just in case I started having Elle Casey Withdrawals too badly. I just finished Shine Not Burn which is her new romance novel out and yes it's awesome. After reading it I didn't want to read anything else and couldn't wait an entire month for another one of her books so decided to treat myself with a double feature. I am so glad I did. This just might be one of my favorite books ever. Kat Lee AKA Elle Casey's books always have strong characters and are very character driven so I knew going in I was probably going to like it but was still surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It's so nice to always have my already high expectations exceeded every single time I read one of her books. There's just something different and unique with the way she writes. Her books are easy to read yet have a great deal of depth. They are always practically error free which is always a plus and the only downside is finishing the book and wishing it could just go on forever.

I simply loved the characters. Aimee is such a sweet woman who despite her jerk of an ex husband still manages to love others. It's so easy to let hate consume you yet she doesn't do that. Caring about your friends, loving others and finding happiness in life are all talents Aimee possesses in spades, talents that are truly the mark of a strong person. Within the first few pages I hated Jack with a passion and that hatred just grew and grew over the course of the book. I've never in all my life wished I could just teleport into a story and beat someone senseless as I did in this book which is truly a testament to the authors skill. Good books should always illicit an emotional response from the readers and Full Measure did that in spades. I was happy, angry, sad. I laughed along with the characters and cried when they did. I shared in their triumphs and pain. All three characters are just so easy to love and once again I find myself wishing that the characters in her books were real people that I could have the honor of knowing. Kiki is completely awesome, beautiful and bold while being such a good friend and a good person while Elizabeth is truly a whiz. I enjoyed seeing the different sides of all three characters especially Elizabeth who was an accountant and was always stuck in such a boring job. It was fun to see her let go a bit and have some fun as she realized that just because she had a plain and boring job that didn't mean she had to be plain or boring. And then there's Betty. OMG that old lady is a hoot! She's like 90 something years old or so and looks around a hundred. When Aimee asked her what her secret to longevity was and she replied "Sex, drugs and rock n' roll" I completely fell in love with her character. I would really love to see much more of her in the next books. She completely steals every scene she's in.

Gah, two paragraphs and I still haven't covered everything I wanted to, which alone should tell you how awesome this book is. I cannot wait too read more. I want to watch as their business takes shape and see more of Joe who is so awesome. I can't wait to see what happens when Brent realizes where he recognizes Kiki from and I want to know more about Sebastian. That fateful day that the three girls all decided to attend a book meeting forever changed their lives. A love of books brought them all together but their friendship and love for each other is what gave them the courage to take a chance and grab life by the horns because sometimes life calls for desperate measures. Such a great book.

brilliant fun read

i absolutely loved Elle Casey's The Changeling series and Wrecked and when i saw she had written a Chic Lit by her alias Kat Lee i knew
it would be good.
Well its not good, its AMAZING! i laughed and loved and hurt and laughed again.
what a beautiful story of friendship and love and it reminds me so much of a group of gorgeous girls i met in a book club and our
continuing friendships.

if you want something light to read that isn't dark and depressing then you must read this! in fact no matter what you must read this.
Such a beautiful story with characters you will love. I can't wait for books 2 & 3
