About the Author
Beth Luey is an educator and amateur musician. When her daughter was taking piano lessons, she realized how important music was in her own life, in her daughter's life, and in their relationship. She asked her daughter's teacher, Stella Saperstein, to write a book with her to help other parents guide their children's musical education. Stella was the ideal co-author. A parent herself, she is also a gifted musician-a graduate of the Leningrad Conservatory who is much in demand as a teacher for students from age three to adult. She often speaks to music educators' organizations and participates as a juror in piano competitions. When Beth and Stella wrote the book, they were both living in Phoenix, where Stella still lives-now counting among her students her two grandchildren. Beth has moved to the south coast of Massachusetts. Her daughter, who graduated from Harvard in 2004, lives in Seattle. Music remains an important part of her life.

Excellent, Realistic Guidance for Parents

I found this book interesting to read yet straight to the point. It's as much a good parenting book as a how-to guide for music education. It offers realistic guidelines and specific suggestions for almost every situation, and there's even a section on when (and when not) to quit! I liked the sample pages for getting kids to take responsibility for their own practice time, instead of parents having to nag them. This book has something worthwhile to offer for every level of musical ability, not just aspiring orchestra players, and it is obvious that the authors have in mind not just the "success" of the child in music, but the development of the child as a whole person.

Great Herbal Encyclopedia

I have had these encyclopedias for 8 years now and I still turn to them often. They are an excellent collection. They cover dosages and forms of administration. They also cover all common and many uncommon herbs. Each chapter includes past use of the herb, color drawing of the herb and sometimes a photo as well, current use with scientific information, areas where the herb can be found, dosages and warnings, the best form of application (tea, lotion, gargle, ticture etc), and it's name in several languages. I love these encylopedias. They are very useful and effective. I'm not sick often, but when I am I reach for these. I like to do cosmetic research (for my own amusement) and these are also good for that. I haven't found a better product yet. They are also made of durable material and are hard cover. I also plan to buy his food encyclopedia soon. They are arranged along the same format. You have to get this!!! The herbs are arranged by the body part that they benefit the most (skin, oral health, muscle etc). You can search for herbs by disease, latin name, and common name in several languages. Their index is very comprehensive. They are indispensable to me.

I use this set along with the 3 book set of Natural Foods by the same author. I do cross reference between the two sets and look to natures way along with western medicine. Very informative. I do like the information and have learned a great deal.

This is a set of literal translations of three Iroquois creation myths, from the Onondaga, Seneca and Mohawk tribes respectively. The interlinear translations in the original have been omitted for technical reasons. These myths are of great interest for several reasons. The Iroquois Confederation was the dominant culture group in the northeastern region at the time of European contact, and as such has maintained its traditions in a fairly intact state. There are minor infiltrations of Biblical elements in the narrative, which are, however, easy to recognize.

The Iroquois had a matrilinear culture in which men and women shared power, which is reflected in this myth by the strong participation of female demi-gods in the creation. The translation is by an experienced anthropologist writing for an academic audience and so it is almost completely free of the sentimentality and prudishness that infected other contemporary books about Native American mythology and folklore.

About Author:

John Napoleon Brinton Hewitt (born December 16, 1859, died October 14, 1937) was a linguist and ethnographer who specialized in Iroquoian and other Native American languages.
Hewitt was born on the Tuscarora Indian Reservation near Lewiston, New York. His mother was of Tuscarora, French, Oneida, and Scottish descent, his father of English and Scottish. His parents raised him speaking the English language, but when he left the reservation to attend schools in Wilson and Lockport, he learned to speak the Tuscarora language from other students who spoke the language.

About the Author

Dr. Bruce M. Whitehead is a NAESP Nationally Distinguished Principal and has served for over thirty years as a principal for School District # 4 in Missoula, Montana. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Montana. His career includes appointments to numerous national and international committees as well as becoming President of the Montana Association of Elementary School Principals and the Montana State Reading Association. He also served as Chairman of Montana’s first Governor’s Task Force on Technology as well as being an NCATE Advisor. As a co-author of 10 books and numerous articles in the field of education, Dr. Whitehead is a recipient of the University of Montana’s highest honor, The Montana Distinguished Alumni Award. Additional honors include: The International Reading Association’s Presidential Service Award, NASA Explorer Schools Leadership Award, National Milken Foundation’s Outstanding Educator Award, John F. Kennedy Center’s Award for Arts in Education, Outstanding Contributions to Saudi Arabian Education, and Japan’s International Soroban Institute Award.

Dr. Floyd Boschee has an extensive background in teaching and educational administration. He served as a teacher, coach, and school administrator in the public schools and as a professor and chairman of departments of education at the collegiate level. Dr. Boschee is professor emeritus in the Division of Educational Administration, School of Education, at the University of South Dakota and a former school board member of the Vermillion School District, Vermillion, South Dakota. During his tenure as a university professor, he consulted with school districts on reorganization; published numerous articles in major educational journals; and conducted workshops on curriculum development and implementation, the teaching and learning process, and school administrator evaluations. He is the author or coauthor of 13 books in the fields of school administration and curriculum and instruction.

A good all-in-one reference manual (of sorts) for people interested in integrating technology into their curriculum, district, or even just their lessons. The only drawback is that, like many things tech related, portions of this book will soon be out of date. An online companion reference that could be continuously updated would have been good.
