About the Author
Peter Keetman is a commercial and industrial photographer who has also published several books of landscape photography. In 1949, he was one of the original founders of the "fotoform" group of photographers, a predecessor of the international subjective photography movement. During the past several decades, he has had one-man shows in Germany and the United States. He lives and works in Breitbrunn-Chiemsee, Germany.

One of the greatest books about the humble VW beetle

This is one of those Rare books that will be enjoyed by Volkswagen enthusiasts and Photographers alike.
Its a rare insight into the Volkswagenwerk Factory to see individual parts of a Volkswagen and the end result.
In between the covers, there are the fabulous rare photographs of VW parts stacked on top of each other.
I have a collection of books about the Volkswagen Beetle, but this book is not like any other Volkswagen book.
I really do recommend this book , and if You are buying it for a Volkswagen beetle owner or VW enthusiast ,
I'm sure they will be very pleased with this Gift.. maybe even "over the moon"

No one cares

If you're even remotely interested in photography, you'll enjoy this book. You'll probably want to enlarge and frame many of the photos within. I bought a poster in a used record store taken from a page in this book, cropped a little on the edges, framed it and have a great wall hanging many people compliment and ask aboout. It didn't take long for me to check the fine print and determine from where it came. It had to be ordered as I'm sure It's not well-known. If this book were marketed however, it could target Volkswagen fanatics and, to a lesser degree, car nuts in general. It's fascinating and a little wierd to see the obsessive order in which all parts were stacked and stored. Also cool are the shots of seemingly endless rows of perfect, new VWs. Beetles and Buses in staight, orderly rows. My first car was a '68 beetle which I rolled, and later hit a deer in -the deer survived. Beetle ownership, however, is not needed to enjoy this book. And, if you're simply into displaying books and getting reactions, this represents the most bang-per-buck ever.

About the Author
WILLIAM G. CROOK, M.D. received his medical education and training at the University of Virginia, the Pennsylvania Hospital, Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Allergy and Immunology, the American Academy of Allergy and Alpha Omega Alpha. He is the author of numerous scientific articles and eleven other books. For 15 years he wrote a nationally syndicated newspaper column (General Features and Los Angeles Times Syndicate). Dr. Crook died in 2002.

Better with new revisions!

I bought this book many years ago when Dr. Crook wrote the first edition around 1986. At that time many of the prescriptions for Candida Yeast infections were not available in the US or not invented yet. I recall doing well based on the advice of the book then, but the diet was very difficult to follow. The latest version with updated revisions, includes meal menu items, foods you must avoid at all costs, and ways to test for food allergies that work. I've followed the diet for 8 days thus far and have not only lost 10 lbs, but feel better overall. I haven't obtained a prescription yet from my doctor to kill the yeast, but just the diet alone is helping. I'm sleeping better, up less often during the night, no more itching issues in those places us men aren't supposed to scratch in public. I've learned foods, fruits, and condiments I thought were healthy and good for us, are a major cause aggravating Yeast infection issues. Mine started again along with massive weight gain while starving myself, after a long stay in the VA Hospital and pumped with strong antibiotics via IV's and pills. I lost 67 lbs while sick and started feeling better, but put on 80 lbs in 12 months time due to the yeast issues caused by the antibiotics. No amount of dieting with fresh vegetables, yogurts, fresh fruits, 2% milk even, stopped the weight gain. Literally starving myself still caused weight gains. The book reminded me of the mold and sugars in foods that are okay for people without the yeast problems, can eat without worry. I knew from past experience this diet works, and for me I hope it allows me to avoid Bypass surgery as my last resort option (especially with VA doctors that aren't as professional as private doctors). I highly recommend this book, even if you don't think you have a Yeast infection problem There are simple tests and questions inside designed to help you determine if Yeast is causing your problems in health and/or weight. I am now ordering his Yeast Connection Cookbook. This should be a good companion book if you are considering this one. That (meals I could make) in the past was the difficult part, learning what I could actually have to eat or drink. By the way, I am eating until full, only some cravings that I can now better control, and best of all.....finally losing weight. This will teach you many things about the foods we love that are literally killing us. It is worth the effort and will be not only a life time and lifestyle change, but will make you feel 100% for the first time in years. I've learned to like foods I never would have tried before in my life, even my old cat is healthier and wants the asparagus spears and broccoli I cook in my own herbs grown on the patio.

****Update****
I started this Yeast Connection Diet on 9/5/2013 and as of 11/1/2013, I have lost 32 lbs so far. This is without any added medications. Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, and Prostate issues have all improved. Overall health and energy level is dramatically improved, plus I have discovered food allergies I never knew about. Most of the recipes are good, some need improvement. The key is, avoid ALL processed foods, including sauces like A1, Mustard, Mayonnaise, etc. You can make your own from scratch knowing exactly what goes into it. As all diets, doing without sugar, salt, etc. is more expensive (my food bill doubled), but this one is well worth it for the benefits for me thus far. As much as I once loved Coca Cola, Domino's Pizza's, fried anything, sweets, etc. Nearly all the foods with sugar or salt added, I can't stand the taste of anymore. Even Kraft American Cheese slices I loved once, are too salty for me now. It is a very time consuming and strict diet, but being retired I have more time for the shopping and preparation now. If you have a busy life, make up your meals and ingredients for a week or so in advance. Make sure to refrigerate or freeze them since they will not have any preservatives (unless you like green or black mold). As you get practice with making condiments and meal items, it gets easier and faster with practice.

For those of you struggling with Yo-Yo diets, or like me, put on weight while counting calories living on 700 per day, weighting portions, counting carbs, etc. that didn't work, and worse, put on the weight anyway. I haven't counted a single calorie or weighed portions since starting this diet. For me it was a waste of time and just didn't work. Things I thought were healthy, were compounding the problem and adding on the weight. This is a lifestyle change, to the point of becoming religious in the proper foods, preparation, and changes you must be committed to. For me seeing positive results and averaging 2 lbs per day lost is what keeps me focused. Yes, I have cheated, then find out one meal of the wrong foods not only causing immediate health issues to return, but sometimes as much as 10 lbs gained overnight after taking two weeks to lose the same amount. As you get more used to eating properly, as I said above, the bad foods will not longer taste as good, or your body will let you know real quick not to eat certain foods you gave up.

I have been consulting with my doctor, and by giving up dairy products, I take vitamin D, Calcium, and other supplements since blood and urine tests showed they dropped. I could literally drink a gallon of milk per day, but found out even 2% milk is loaded with sugar and salt. So thinking fat free milk and the creamer in my coffee was okay, proved to be wrong for me. Any hidden sugars will restrict the weight loss, salt can boost blood pressure. So I can't stress how important reading labels on every food item you buy is very important.

Dated & Repetitive

All the information in here is from 1986 or before except I did notice one from I think 1992. It appears the authors 1st edition is first in the book and rather than revise and update the information the author just added the same information a second time. So as you read the book you get the same information 6+ times.

This should be basic knowledge now with more advanced testing and treatments. If your medical doctor doesn't know it look for a Naturopathic Doctor as they will know all about this and have dozens of dietary, homeopathic, and botanical treatments. I like the topic and think that it was likely an excellent book in the mid 80's. I hope they reorganize the book to eliminate reputation and update the information.

I would recommend getting the The Candida Cure: Yeast, Fungus & Your Health - The 90-Day Program to Beat Candida & Restore Vibrant Health but I would caution that it appears she receives money from the company and supplements she recommends. This was a good book in it's time, ten to twenty years ago, but the info and advise is very much outdated. Dr Crook was a pioneer in the research on Candida and it's treatments. Some of the advise and recomendations have been proven detrimental to one's total health, such as substituting aspartane or saccharin for sugar. Also, it recommends the use of Nystatin for which you need doctor's prescription. This would require expensive tests before the script could be written. There are new natural ways o dealing with yeast ie diet and supplements.
Am giving it 2 stars because there is good information on the subject of yeast.

A Life Worth Living Vicariously

If I could jump inside one person's head Being-John-Malkovich style and experience their entire life, beginning-to-end, without regard to anything but the sheer roller coaster thrill of it, I'd probably pick Chuck Yeager. (Granted, the guy's not dead yet. But unless he meets a truly horrendous end--eaten alive, say, by Bengal Tigers, while slow-roasting over a barbecue pit--I'd consider myself a truly lucky man to see everything he's seen and do everything he's done.)

Ripping through the sound barrier in a bullet-shaped orange rocket plane, battling Messerschmitts in the cold European skies, testing exotic aircraft of all shapes and sizes in the bleak Mojave desert, hunting and fishing and hiking the high Sierras, hooting and hollering with friends on crazy drunken misadventures--it all sounds too fun to be legal, and except for the hooting and hollering part, I haven't done any of it.

What's more, he lived the kind of life that people don't seem to believe in anymore, the life of the self-made man who rises from nothing, who picks himself up by his own bootstraps and succeeds through good ol' Yankee Doodle initiative, ability and gumption. One of the nice things about this book, though, is that he doesn't rub it in. He's the first one to acknowledge how lucky he's been to live the life he's lived and live to tell about it. An upside-down-bolt on an airplane aileron, parachute shroud lines that almost burnt through after an ejection gone awry--any of these things could have ended this remarkable life long before old age, and he knows it.

Beyond the good luck, though, he knew enough not to press his luck. One realizes, reading this book, that Yeager's flying career's remarkable not because he took chances, but because he didn't get so cocky and full of himself that he took one chance too many. In the test pilot business, it's better to fade away than to burn out (or up).

I last read this when I was a kid, not long after it came out--I'd been blown away by "The Right Stuff" and was nuts about everything aviation-and-space related. I don't think I've seen it in twenty years, but I've had a hankering to read it for a while now, so I picked it up, put down the boring weighty intellectual tomes I usually read, and ripped through it in a couple days, eagerly smuggling it into the bathroom at work to steal some pleasure out of the boring workday. I'll never live this life, never get a pilot's license--with my narcolepsy and my bad eyes, I probably shouldn't even have a driver's license--but thanks to this book I can live Chuck Yeager's life vicariously, for a couple days, anyway.

Legendary flying ace Chuck Yeager has put on paper not only his life, but his amazing character as well.
Since I was a child I was told the stories of Chuck Yeager by my brothers.One of whom was an aviator himself, and was in awe of this man.
When I read his autobiography, which is definitely one of the best books I've ever read, I felt a new kind of respect for the man. A man who was never given a college education, yet managed to be one of the greatest aviators and men in history. He overcame the odds more than a few times.
What touched me most about this book was it's honesty.He never embellishes the truth, and tells it like it is, always. The book may not be the best articulated book in history, but that is because that is not Chuck's way.
He recounts all the major events in aviation history with a style that reveals his passion, and his determination that if you are going to do something, do it right.Eloquently put by Chuck, do it balls out.
I most enjoyed his manner in the book, fun loving without losing sight of himself, his demeanour is that of a mischievous brother who'll stand up for what he believes in, no matter what.
This man is a role model and one of the world's finest heroes. Read the book and meet the man.

A straight shooting biography of several amazing lives.

Yeager personafied the WWII generation, the finest ever produced by America. His humble description of his amazing life is inspiring to all and incredible to those with a love of aviation. Besides his own history, he chronicles the life of several other people, such as lady pilots Pancho Barnes and Jackie Cochran, who also lived lives that read like movie scripts. A book that has to be read several times to be fully appreciated. Also check out "The First and the Last", by Adolf Galland, for an equally unusual true account by a great aviator and leader. Farron Dacus, Irving, Texas.

Subject is OK but Very Lazy Author

A lazy and not reader considerate writer. The subject is OK, in fact quite good, but the author does not provide the details of the examples in the text itself, specifying what is to be done, and simply refers to a screen shot to provide the particular details.

For instance, he says, create a query as shown in Figure XXX. But the problem is, the screen shot is very small, and hard if not impossible to decipher, even with a magnifier, especially on Kindle version. Often have to guess at what he means.

Such is a lazy writer, he saves work on his part, and makes the readers work so much harder to compensate; this is not a good approach because the screen shots are not that readable. If the screen shots were readable, it would be more acceptable. The labels of the diagrams are much wider than the actual diagrams--why not make the disgrams just was wide, and thus bigger?

In addition, the placement of the figures/screen shots do not immediately follow (or precede) the text, so have to flip back and forth.

It is unfortunate, otherwise a good book. As mentioned, the content is good.

Also contains some errors.

There are many good computer instruction book writers, he is not one of them--he is lazy and inconsiderate of the reader. Look for same subject from another author.

The screen shots are so small and difficult to view, and unreadable even with a magnifier, and the author just lets the screen shots present the steps and selections necessary to work the examples, rather than specify the details in the accompanying text.

This is why I say he is a very lazy author. Extremely frustrating, especially when the page occupied by the screen shot could accommodate a larger graphic to be more readable. No consideration for the reader, only author's own convenience. If all his books are like this, stay away!

Good basic information

Excel and Access are made for each other, I have been combining the two for years and when I saw this book I grabbed it to get some new ideas and perhaps better ways of doing things.
I was disappointed, this book presented me with nothing new and I quickly discovered some of the stuff that I was already doing was more advanced than this book covers.

If you were approaching the topic from a platform of not knowing how to integrate Excel and Access, then this book will help you, but advanced users will be frustrated with it.

Another great contribution by Michael Alexander

This book has some great tips on how to get these two programs to work together for even more sophistication and productivity. Excel is one of those programs where the average user uses perhaps 15 percent of its capabilities. The same is probably true of Access. Alexander and Clark show some great ways to get the programs to work together. Even as a seasoned user, I found some neat sections that opened my eyes. For me the best sections were those on Microsoft Query, getting Excel reports to look professional (by feeding them to Access Reports), the introduction to VBA, and the very clever sections on integration with Word and PowerPoint. This book will be a valuable addition to every Excel and Access user's bookshelf (and it won't get dusty there, I regularly use it as a reference).

Useful guide

The title caught my attention. I love stats reports and how media interpret data. And I am aware at the same time how they tweak data.

In this book I was so interested in the Garbage in Garbage out procedure. Same goes with the visual tricks. We are deceived how media exaggerate its meaning. For misleading percentages, I think this one is common in marketing. This book serves as an eye-opener to be literate in stats interpretation. Causation is a new term to me. This is very useful in my thesis.

Exposing some common tricks

Jordan makes a very brave attempt in this book to demonstrate how statistics and charts can be manipulated to prove ones point or to amplify any desired aspect. It is a very short book, i finished it in less than couple of hours.

The most common way of influencing the human mind is to mix up causuality and correlation - leading many to make inferences as desired by the presenter. Jordan brings out that aspect quite well. Misusing averages is another common feature - as someone once said if your one leg is in boiling water, other in freezing water, the average temperature is 50 C. The games one can play with charts - shifting the x axis, changing scales or blowing up a pie chart - is also very common and used by many with alacrity.

The book however didn't give me any aha moments, as many times I have used some of those tricks to make my point.

Excellent read.

An interesting premise, ask anyone if they lie and of course they say no, but throughout our day we use manipulation/lies to help us get through the day, not necessarily to deceive but not to offend. This book helps make that process easier with easy tips on how to make the process that much easier and guilt free. Using the statistics layed out in the book you can easily become adept at becoming a master of deception (the good kind of course). Thoroughly recommended.

I love this book. Dr. Jenn's book gives the reader the opportunity to reflect on personal issues that can be brought into the relationship. She really does an amazing job at partner sensitivity and also taking responsibility. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to better themselves to become an ideal life partner. Great read. Through this book I learned so many ideas to improve my relationship.
