Very easy to read!

This bood can be the introduction level bood for undergraduate students. Authors explain everything very clearly from first chapters. If you already have background about linear algebra this book could be the supplementry material. If you want to focus on the advance econometrics this book would be the good choice for reinforce your matrix ability.

Easy Fun Read

I really enjoyed this book.
I liked that the author put her own spin on the coexistence of humans and vampires, and created a world that is not too far out of the realm of possibilities. The vampires are "out", and under control by the Vampire Protection League. It keeps them from getting to aggressive, as well as protects them from "the Covenant" which is basically a vampire hate group. To me, it makes it all seem a little more real. In this world Vampires have jobs and run businesses. Some are friendly, while some are they typical power hungry jerk.
The characters themselves are entertaining. They have a sense of humor and act like normal people (or vampires). Francesca Marinelli is a 227 year old vampire who was buried by King Normand (a former Vampire king), along with his treasure, and forgotten about. During a recent renovation on a house that had been built on her burial site historic St. Augustine, she is discovered by Maggie O'halloran, who then acts as her "sponsor" and best friend. I personally love the history of St. Augustine, and enjoy reading about a city that I have actually been to. Francesca or "Cesca" as she is called by friends is a fun and sweet vampire. She has morals and wants to be a good vampire, but really does not like that she is a vampire. Due to her religious views, she will not kill herself by walking into the sun, so she spends her time with her dream job of guiding Ghost tours through St. Augustine, surfing, playing Bridge, and having fun with her best friend. She is one of the few vampires that have the gift of "day walking" which is what allows her to surf. During her tour one night she meets several interesting characters such as "the Jag queens," which is a group of retired women who are enjoying themselves to the fullest and happen to be huge fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars football team. She meets a French couple who is quite obvious in their romance and romantic practices. She meets a member of the Covenant who is intent of proving that she is the horrible vampire he thinks she is. After she discovers the body of a woman from her tour group, she comes under suspicion and is then paired up with the yummy sounding Deke Saber, who is very much a drool inducing hottie.
This book was a fun and easy read. It had a good mystery and enough back stories to round out the characters. There is enough romance to be noticeable, but not so much that it takes over the story. I think it was a good balance of all the elements and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Unique and Spunky Vampire Cesca Storms Onto the Scene!

Francesca Marinelli - call her Cesca, which rhymes with Fresca - is a vampire, online student, surfer chick, and historic city tour guide aficionado in a city that is near and dear to my heart, St. Augustine. She's a feisty, quirky, independent-minded but socially-conscious vampire who doesn't drink in front of people. She holds her nose when she has to drink blood at all, in fact. Her greatest ambition after spending 200 or so years chained and imprisoned underground is to chisel out a normal life, free to come and go as she pleases - with respect to the GPS chip in her arm that keeps tabs on her 24/7, and so long as she doesn't slip too far from her vampire sponsor - who's also her roommate and best friend.

She's sassy and quick-witted, politely sardonic. I love her!

Cesca's bopping along, mapping out just about every spare minute of her life, when a member of her most recent tour group ends up murdered and - no surprise to her - she's looked at as being a suspect. Not everyone's too keen about her afterlife status, after all. While police inquiry is a drag, though, it DOES introduce her to superhotty Deke Saber - the supernatural forces special agent who at first thinks she's as guilty as can be.

As details start to flesh out the mystery and threats start fluttering at Cesca more intently and dangerously, Saber vows to not let her out of his sight - an even MORE dangerous proposition to the positively virginal (literally) Cesca.

I really enjoyed La Vida Vampire. It's original and charming, and Cesca is a witty and spunky protagonist who is no one's patsy. That the book is also set in St. Augustine, my absolute favorite southern city and just down the road from my old stomping grounds, was a particularly decadent frosting on a full-flavored cake.

La Vida Vampire's got a bit of mystery, a bit of romance, and a bit of mysticism. Ghosts and witches and shape changers are flitting around in the background too. Which actually leads to a small bit of objective criticism on one of the plot threads in the book. While I believe this thread may be indicative of a wider arc through the upcoming series, and is included to add depth and breath to the plot, the paranormal aspects (uh...I mean other than the vampires and the ghosts) seemed oddly out of place and read more like a more somber and dark urban fantasy. It was sort of odd mixed in with bad hair days, surfing, nighttime dashes to the 24 hour Wal-Mart, and the daily doses of caramel Starbloods.

Other than that, though, there's a solid, original story here with a lot of style and class...and a YUMMY agent Saber there to fan all those flames. Strongly recommended if you like irreverent heroines with a lot of self respect who still manage to get themselves in very sticky but funny situations.

This is a very short story, good for its length. I just like more depth and detail.

Jari is a young, very young viking. He is still soft hearted, but strong and determined beginning to know his own mind. when he spots a ship in their still watered inlet. After inspection he and his brother find that it appears all are dead and begin to prepare to torch the ship. As it burns, something jumps in the water Jari jumps into save the female.. he is separated from his people for saving her, to learn that it was not sickness that is was poison. Very short story without much plot. A fantasy written merely to show case a sexual encounter. A young Viking boy, naive to the ways of more experienced men and women is introduced to being dominated by a worldly female. Depending on what you as a reader look for in a story, it is an okay experience. No mystery, no romance, no thrilling action to entertain. Just a romp on the floor. Three stars.

I love Bibi Rizer so I purchased this hoping it wasn't a repeat. It was. This short story was published in an anthology of Viking "romance". Authors should identify their writing as previously published. The story was great, again but irritation quickly clouds when I discovered, I had read this before.

Dr Wei Shyy is the Provost of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and formerly Clarence L. 'Kelly' Johnson Collegiate Professor and Department Chair of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. The technical data is invaluable and the author condensed a vast technical material nicely in several chapters. If you are an aerospace scientist and doing daily engineering analysis this book is tailored to help you refresh your spacecraft dynamic and control methodology knowledge. Fairly easy to read and apply.

A great, practical text--M. J. Sidi has wisdom for both new engineers and seasoned professionals

Surprised Sidi's great text has no 5 star reviews yet. I discovered this book while I was working on a smallsat ADCS--my first assignment as a controls engineer where I carried any real responsibility. I had done my undergrad in physics and was still learning how to think like an engineer. Thanks to Sidi's practical and thorough discussion of attitude dynamics and control I was able to successfully complete this first assignment. Indeed, so much so that at the end of it my boss, who knew my background, met with me and asked "how the heck do you know so much about spacecraft dynamics?!". When I became a grad student I was the project manager for a smallsat attempt by Purdue, and also did specific research on ADCS which became my master's thesis and has produced peer-reviewed publications. Throughout all of that I kept a copy of Sidi on my desk and consulted it frequently. Everyone can learn something from this book, and I am sad I no longer have a copy--I will have to remedy that soon .

Practical coverage, few examples

This is a preliminary review as I am still going through the book. I had a few books I looked at from the library, but I picked this one since it seemed to move well between the theory and what situations are typical. The deficiency though, is that there are only a few worked examples mixed in with the chapter.

Indeed, seeks the heart of wisdom.

This book is true to its title~ The authors truly seek the heart of wisdom by skillfully blending Buddhist teachings on insight meditation practice with conventional knowledge, without loosing authenticity. The book is extremely informative and instructive for beginners. For those who are attracted to this practice, but still are not convinced enough to actually sit and accept this practice ( looking for rationale), this book is very convincing through its highly eloquent, balanced, pragmatic, and wise voice... And if you are already practicing then this book further motivates you to work through various hindrances and stick to this practice. How I see it, anyone with an open and receptive heart will absorb the wisdom of the words here and be encouraged to develop and expand their own practice.

Helpful understanding of the hows and whys of meditation

I love the simple and direct understanding the authors impart as to how to begin Vipassana, the core elements and components. This seems like a training manual, for those of us who cannot attend a training seminar. I really appreciate the deepening of my understanding in just the first few pages. Mindfulness has made a huge difference in the way I see m own life and how i work with clients in psychotherapy. I highly recommend this bok, and anything by Jack Kornfield.

Terrible book - don't waste your money on it!

This is a truly execrable book. Where to start? It is disjointed, poorly written, and lacks any real substance or depth. I purchased it thinking it might be reflective and have something worthwhile to say and offer. It has absolutely nothing to do with Mindfulness and the author has clearly cashed in on the term to sell more books. What you end up with instead is a flaky book full of some practical steps on how to start up an entrepreneurial enterprise. Perhaps this might be of use to some people but the tone of her writing and her voice is just so annoying. She is adamant that money means nothing to her - but I seriously doubt that. I think her and her enterprise is all about the money and producing something as poor as this (and all the related other titles) speaks volumes. Also, the presentation is very off-putting. There are lovely photos of the beach and water, but so many with the author in it posing as if for a model/photo shoot. What's the point? Her narcissistic tendencies come through without a touch of irony.

Inspiring and thought provoking

As expected, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and devoured it in just a few hours. Lisa really hits the nail on the head with her explanation on money and our relationship with it.
I've always believed that the desire for wealth for the purpose of creating freedom is nothing to be ashamed of, and it was lovely to read an agreement of this mindset in such an eloquent, matter of fact way.
Can't wait to see what Lisa releases next!

Josef “Sepp” Allerberger was the second most successful sniper of the German Wehrmacht and one of the few private soldiers to be honored with the award of the Knight’s Cross. An Austrian conscript, after qualifying as a machine gunner he was drafted to the southern sector of the Russian Front in July 1942. Wounded at Voroshilovsk, he experimented with a Russian sniper-rifle while convalescing and so impressed his superiors with his proficiency that he was returned to the front on his regiment’s only sniper specialist. In this sometimes harrowing memoir, Allerberger provides an excellent introduction to the commitment in field craft, discipline and routine required of the sniper, a man apart. There was no place for chivalry on the Russian Front. Away from the film cameras, no prisoner survived long after surrendering. Russian snipers had used the illegal explosive bullet since 1941, and Hitler eventually authorized its issue in 1944. The result was a battlefield of horror. Allerberger was a cold-blooded killer, but few will find a place in their hearts for the soldiers of the Red Army against whom he fought.

Unique perspective, intense and satisfying stories of WWII German Marksman Sepp Allerberger

As an avid WWII reader, I’m always looking for the next good book I can sink my brain-teeth into. For the past little while I’ve been “catching up” on accounts of the Eastern Front (I use to read only Western/Southern Europe accounts) and then almost exclusively from the Landsers point of view. Some of the best first person perspective reads I have experienced are Guy Sajers’ “Forgotten Soldier” and several of the Stackpole publishers books such as “Tigers in the Mud” and the Panzer Aces series… basically as of late I like a clean read of what-was-happening in the field as opposed to statistics of “how many” and precise dates (I’m pretty sure I’ve covered those statistical books a few hundred times already).

So on the list of good reads, I put this one at 4.5 stars. The reason not 5 was that it is a thin book, so it reads pretty quickly, and I believe Sepp didn’t write it himself, instead he was interviewed for his story and someone else wrote it up for him so some interpretation comes through. Still, this was the first book I have read about any Sniper/Marksman activity during WWII and I found the perspective refreshing, even if the subject matter is rather intense. To that point, the descriptions of atrocities that Sepp observed are some of the more disturbing that I have read in many books, and I understand that they were uniquely so in that in my excitement to share what I was reading with a friend I found that I would fall way short when trying to describe them and must have appeared a bit kookie in finding any joy from such abominable subject matter. So with a fair warning for not reading this on a full stomach I give this a two “thumbs up”!

"Sniper on the Eastern Front" puts the horrors of the Russian Front on a personal level

"Sniper on the Eastern Front" confirms all the horror stories that one has read and heard about the war on the Russian Front in World War II. It's an enlightening memoir and chronicle of how a young German soldier became a one of the most highly decorated Wehrmacht snipers fighting the Russians and all the ordeals he and his comrades went through. It provides insights on tactics and skills developed by both sides in the fighting as well as the terrible ordeals German soldiers went through. It does provide convincing anecdotes on how barbaric the Soviet soldiers were toward their enemies, civilian and military, On the other hand it could be pointed that The main criticism is that the book is a little light on the ordeals that the German army put the Russians through in the course of invading the Motherland. It provides a weak justification for a "preemptive" war against a Communist dictatorship, although Stalin would have certainly liked to take out Nazi Germany and the West as a whole at some point--although it is highly improbably that it was planned for later in 1941 as the book asserts. Another revelation provided by the veteran sniper is the extent to which German troops on the Eastern Front used and appeared dependent on an early methamphetamine drug developed by Nazi scientists to keep their armies going and alert in face of the exhaustion and continued stress of battling the dogged Russian army.

Interesting, enlightening and horrific - an honest depiction of war

This is a stark, honest story of life during wartime. It does not glorify war or being a sniper in any way. The depiction of life on the Eastern front of the German/Russian conflict during WWII is brutal and not for those with a weak stomach. I think that everybody should read a book such as this at least once in their lifetime in order to help them to understand the horrors of war and why it should be avoided whenever possible. It is easy to for those away from the military to forget what war entails and books such as this are necessary reminders of why war should only be a last resort. The author does a great job of explaining the combination of luck, good fortune and skills that allowed him to survice in this role while others died. He details the cunning and cold calculation that makes for a successful sniper without glorifying it. He also does a good job of explaining the military culture of the time and how the view of the sniper evolved from being looked upon by military leadership as a dishonorable method or warfare to being seen by leadership as a necessity. It was interesting to learn that the sniper often saved the lives of his comrades byslowing down the enemy in pursuit of retreating troops and sometime stopping aggressive attacks by methodically picking off soldiers and forcing them to keep thier heads down. Ultimately, I found the book to be both horrific, shocking and interesting all at the same time.

sent wrong book, got 60% refund

First, they sent me the instructor edition, I am a student so that was not what I ordered and then they proceeded to tell me I couldn't get a full refund because sending it back is "bad for everyone" ...I don't think so. I expect a full refund, you sent me the wrong book! Very frustrated, probably will never buy from again -I can afford to spend $200 and then not get the item I asked for and not get a refund!?

I just want to mention the Supersite. Buying the book and getting a passcode will not give you access to all the online material. All the grammar lessons online cost per chapter. Granted each chapter is only $1.50, but still, is that really necessary? I didn't think so. Also, in the book you see no mention of extra online costs for the grammar materials.

Great Book, Great Drummer

The book does several things:

1) It teaches the drummer how to read music. Most drummers skip this essential skill and play by ear.

2) The CD that comes with the book has a full band with the drum track you're learning. You learn a short riff, then play along with the band. Much more fun than playing in isolation w/out any other instruments. Plus, you can try out different "textures" as you play, to see how it sounds with other instruments.

3) You learn different styles. Even in this book (Level 1) the student gets exposure to different styles of music, which really makes it more fun and challenging.

I've had two drum instructors: The first one more or less taught me to play by ear and because he was a rock drummer, that's what I learned. The second instructor was Scott Schroedl (the author). This guy is the real deal. An amazing drummer.

I'm not writing this as a favor to Mr. Schroedl, rather I'm writing this because his method worked for me.

It's working great for me - a total beginner!

I bought this book several years ago when I bought a small electronic drum pad, but never opened it until I bought a full electronic drum set a few weeks ago. It is working very well for me, and I have progressed through about a third of the book. The CD is very helpful. In addition to letting you hear what the beat is supposed to sound like, it is much more interresting to play the beats to the accompanying music on the CD rather than just playing the drums by themselves. I highly recommend the book.

A good start

I love how this book is grounded in written music and that it comes with music to play along with on CD. I ripped the tracks onto my iPod and put each track on loop until I get each down. I'm about halfway through the book and I'm really liking the method presented.
