Cathedrals Built by the Masons was featured in a full-page article in The Square, the Independent Magazine for Freemasons, in June 2016. "Russell Herner is a Freemason who loves cathedrals. He also knows a lot about them and this is obvious when you read his book. It is slightly larger than A4, some 240 pages and beautifully illustrated. The book has 14 chapters, appendices, glossary, and good references. It falls into three groups. Firstly, a collection of wonderful pictures of cathedrals. The second part is a description of how cathedrals were built and the tools that were used. The third is a resume of the transition from Operative to Speculative Masonry..."
About the Author
Russell Herner began researching cathedrals in 1969 and has collected primitive tools for over 50 years. He has been a Mason since 1962 and received the 33rd Degree in 1992. His two previous books are Stonehenge: An Ancient Masonic Temple and Antique Ice Skates for the Collector.

I highly recommend this book, even if you have no interest in Cathedrals. After reading the book, you will gain a tremendous appreciation for the design and construction of these magnificent structures. The book presents what would be considered complicated details in a manner that is easy to understand. You will feel as though Mr. Herner is giving you a personal tour, making sure you understand and learn through the diagrams presented. The many wonderful photographs bring his story to life. I have toured Europe, and visited several of the Cathedrals, and regret that I did not have the knowledge this book provides, prior to my visits.
